Technology plays an enormous part in twenty-first century life. Children are accessing it for a variety of purposes, including gaming, interacting and for educational use, to name but a few! It is extremely important for children to gain experience with technology in a positive way and to be educated about how to use it to its full potential, in a safe way. This is e-safety. The purpose of this page is to give guidance and advice about how to keep your child safe on and offline.

E-Safety is taught and embedded in our curriculum from Nursery through to Year Two.

What is Online Gaming?

Online gaming describes the video games that offer the opportunity to interact online with other users. Video games used to be classified by an Online Content PEGI descriptor to show whether they were online or not. However, it is more common that games provide online interactions and as a result this distinction is no longer used.

Children are gaining access to and owning their own devices from an ever younger age. Devices can be great for learning and development, however parents should be aware of the content available online and the chance of your child seeing something they shouldn’t when online.

Pre-installed parental controls are available for most devices, laptops and consoles and are part of the system when you buy them. You can often download e-safety apps and software to supplement these controls. But the most important thing is to set the controls on the device itself.
