Umberslade Farm was the destination for our trip this summer. We had a lovely day with lots of opportunities to handle and feed some of the animals.
The children were very brave and passed round guinea pigs, rabbits and even a rat!!
The pigs were absolutely huge when they reared up on their back legs! It was particularly smelly and noisy by the pig stys too….
Back in the Nursery we have been finding out the names of animal homes and the names of the baby animals, and all about how they live. Some children have designed and constructed farmyards and animal shelters with the construction materials.
Nursery Garden has also been a focus and we have planted sunflower seeds which we saved from last year’s sunflowers. This has helped us to understand life cycles.
We used pastels to draw what we carefully observed as they began to grow, including the stem, leaves and the pots.
The children have been looking after for their plants and weeding the garden too, in addition to watering them every day. Whose will grow to be the tallest??!!
Finally as the year has begun to close each child has left a memento for the Nursery as we move on. Our minibeast painted stones have been ‘planted’ all around the garden, they are beautifully detailed and make the garden even more interesting.
